Swtor Traitor Storyline How to Continue

BioWare has done a great job with the new storyline on Ossus in SWTOR 5.10. Let me show and tell you why Jedi Under Siege is a huge step in the right direction!

IMPORTANT: There are story spoilers in this article, in both the text and the videos.

On December 11th, following a rough launch and extended maintenance Star Wars: The Old Republic received the biggest and by far the best update for 2018 – Patch 5.10 "Jedi Under Siege" begins a new page in the personal story of your character. Based on what class and alignment you choose to play through it with, you will see unique elements and dialogues. In some cases your experience will be vastly different!

A ton of old characters make a return and the new ones that have been created specifically to meet you for the first time in this chapter of your adventure, are very well done. There are a couple of hits and misses, but overall the NPCs you will interact with are either from the origin class stories of the game, or a very well designed and interesting new characters that you will interact with now and in the future.

The Plot of Jedi Under Siege

The story, in a nutshell, is as follows: The Empire and Republic are at each other's throats once again. The Sith have discovered a Jedi Colony set up on the unfriendly ancient Jedi world of Ossus. Legendary Master Gnost-Dural has moved there years ago in an attempt to both preserve the ancient Jedi knowledge, while also teaching new generations of Force users.

The Empire is amazed with the technology the colonist have developed on the planet (successfully growing crops on an incredibly unfriendly for that environment) and attempt to steal/destroy it along with as many Jedi artifacts as possible. Your job as a Republic player is to assist the Jedi while they evacuate. If you belong to the Empire, you are tasked with destroying and plundering whatever you can get your hands on.

But we were told we'd get to choose our faction in 5.10! What's up with that?

I enjoyed the story a lot. By the time I sat down to write this article, I had played through it six times. You might think this is not a lot. Well, let me give you a comparison then, to see why this is a big thing for me.

I have played through the Jedi Knight and Sith Warrior stories respectively five and four times. I have barely dragged three of my characters through Fallen Empire (KOTFE) and Eternal Throne (KOTET) before I started skipping scenes like mad. My poor Spacebar!

I had not skipped a single scene in all of my first six playthroughs. I witnessed the story from as many angles as possible. There have been a ton of little things and details that prove how much BioWare is paying attention to the demands of the masses – more meaningful choices and branching stories!

It's obvious that we will never get a per-class story for your characters in SWTOR, but Jedi Under Siege comes as close as I believe it to be possible. Why? Jump into the next segment!

Origin Stories References in Jedi Under Siege

Oh, boy! There are so many hints and throwbacks. Some hidden, some right in the dialogues. I was amazed at how much I had forgotten from the origin stories. I even had to read a bit on the Inquisitor story to remember who Moff Pyron was.

It's not just Pyron, though. There are a lot of other NPCs that you will recognize or will think you remember. The best doctor in the galaxy – Archiban Frodrick – simply known as Doc, will meet you there with a huge grin on his face if you are a Jedi Knight class.

Doc has been on Ossus together with Nadia – one of the Consular's class companions, who will recognize her old Barsen'thor master (if you are a Consular player). They both meet you as soon as you land on Ossus, but their dialogues and behavior is vastly different based on your class.

Players who sided with Khem Val in their origin Inquisitor class story will have one more surprise on Ossus. In the farmstead, during one of the main missions, Khem will greet and assist you with the objective.

All of these companions also have a recruitment option available after the story. Their Alliance Alert Missions, however, are only available if you are the appropriate class for each companion.

And there is more! Like the NPC you visit on Nar Shaddaa. Or Gnost-Dural listing the names of legendary figures you defeated at the end of your fight with him…

I wont list every other reference I have discovered but instead leave you to find them on your own. You can do that by simply watching the video walkthroughs I have shared here among the lines in this post. And it's possible that I may have missed even more references that you will help me catch… by leaving a comment below! :)

A new beginning for the Alliance Commander

The worst part for me in Jedi Under Siege is not the bugs that crawl through pretty much every single new feature. I hate the fact that I am still being called "The Commander". There are many reasons for that, though. Solid reasons.

It's been six years since I have lost connection with my friends, companions and old buddies. They may recognize me as "The Battlemaster" or "The Barsen'thor", but they will still call me "Commander" later.

The Eternal Empire drama may be behind us, but it is a part of the history and as such, cannot be erased just like that. You and me are now the Commander of the Alliance and we are not just returning back to our old faction. Instead we choose which to support and side with – Republic or Empire.

The Alliance is a very powerful organization and at the time of Jedi Under Siege it is a huge privilege and an advantage to have them join your cause for both of the old rival factions.

The Republic of Empire Choice

At the very beginning of the story, Lana asks you to choose who will you support the Sith Empire or the Republic. Your choice can be averted once in the very next dialogue, but if you confirm that you are supporting one, you will have to stick with your choice. At least for now.

The stories are still separated – Empire classes play through the Empire storyline, Republic Classes venture through Ossus following the Republic's missions.

If, however, you choose to switch faction at the beginning of Jedi Under Siege, you will be a "double agent", and play sort of "undercover". There will be one side mission that will allow you to "sabotage" the faction you no longer support, but that's more of a fluff rather than a real mission.

The Empire classes, who choose to support the Republic will get to damage some starfighters in the Empire base, while the Republic classes, who side with the Empire, will get to damage a water filtration system on Ossus.

BioWare devs confirmed already for us that this choice you make in the beginning of the story will have real meaningful and important consequences later on. Remember that Jedi Under Siege is not just a beginning of a new story. It's also a prequel to the next big expansion – only known as "6.0" for the moment.

Malgus has returned!

As a huge Malgus fan I had to mention his epic return. His appearance on Ossus in the Empire story was both dramatic and a bit rushed. I loved to see him, but felt betrayed by the devs because of the complete lack of information of how he returned and why. It is obvious that this info will be revealed later either via the story or side missions. I just wanted to know NOW!

Malgus was a big threat to the Republic as well at some point. His mentions and appearance in the story for Republic players, however, was lacking and absolutely minimal.

It is entirely possible that my whole opinion on 5.10 could be swayed in the wrong direction, or "boosted", if you will, simply because of Malgus and his appearance. I've been asking for his return since the first time I pushed him down that shaft in the False Emperor Flashpoint. He did not deserve to die in a lvl ~48 Flashpoint as a random miserable mediocre Sith.

Conclusions and final thoughts

It's hard for me to tell if I like 5.10 and its story so much because it's a good story or perhaps because it's the first real one we get since 5.2 The War for Iokath. Jedi Under Siege is a bit cheasy at times, but it tickles my "veteran bone" in the right way. I enjoyed meeting all these old characters that I have encountered six or seven years ago. I absolutely loved the return of Darth Malgus. I noticed how well written and talkative Major Anri (joins you during the Empire story) and Tau (accompanies you in the Republic version) are as opposed to the deaf and mute companions we have been playing with in the past few years.

What do you think of the new story? Did it meet your expectations and why? How many times did you run it and with what characters? How about the returning companions? Was your personal favorite among them? Mine was – Doc!

I have a few more characters I need to take through the storyline. Expect possibly a few more videos added to this article showing you more choices and different dialogue outcomes in the coming days.
